Choosing the Right Accommodation
One of the most difficult parts of planning travel is choosing the right accommodation.
From one country to the next and hotel chain to the next, your expectations
of hotel rooms can differ hugely. A $100 per night room might be reasonable
in one city - but completely unachievable in another.
Follow our process here, and you will learn how to search for and then find the
most suitable accommodation for your holiday.
1. Decide upon your destination
City or country of choice
2. Decide upon your positioning priority - where do you want to ideally stay near?
Nearest public transport / central station, nearest the beach, district/area or a particular
landmark:-shopping center, museum quarters
This will actually give you an idea of the Landmarks that are within and around the City/Destination.
3. Check the Location by using the right tools
Using Google Maps to get an idea for which location you need to find a hotel.
Enter the destination into Google Maps.
Hint: This is really a verification step and will give you an idea of where Landmarks and
City boundaries actually are.
4. Shortlist your hotel choices by focusing on the Ideal area/Location
Street name / Landmark
We prefer Booking.com to book hotels.
Use our search box here to search for your next hotel.
To choose your hotel effectively, compare your hotel choices and consider
the following requirements:
* Price point
Is the price including or excluding all taxes?
Is Breakfast included?
Is Internet included?
Are these important?
* Is the booking fee refundable?
Take note of the conditions of booking such as penalty fees.
* Pay Day
When does the hotel/booking agent expect you to pay - check in the booking conditions page
* Location
Is it best to be near a rail/metro/bus station for proximity for arrival and/or departure?
Is there Parking available? If required. Is there a cost to the parking? Is this important?
5. Confirm your budget and the hotel cost.
You may not be able to easily determine the price in many places:
a $100 per night room might be reasonable in one city - but not achievable in another
6. Book your Accommodation
Before you confirm your reservation, check and double check the details.
Dates arriving / departing etc.
Check in and Check out times, and consider these when arriving at the destination.
7. Enter everything into your Trip Planner
[Tripit for example]. Don't forget to record all of these details.
